ABORTION: UP THE SLIPPERY SLOPE

1ABORTION: THE IDEOLOGY At 20 weeks the fetus is about the size of a hamster, though it’s not as developed as a hamster. At 26 weeks the fetus is teetering on the edge of being a Proto Human. Facts, common sense and nuanced thinking indicates to me that aborting an unplanned/ unwanted fetus, soon after one has discovered that one has missed one’s period (this would be the speck-to-tadpole stage) is a useful or necessary medical procedure with no moral or ethical ramifications. Aborting the “hamster” at 20 weeks would be sad or even tragic. Aborting any not-malformed, non-life-threatening fetus … Continue reading ABORTION: UP THE SLIPPERY SLOPE

ME TOO, TOO

However, an article at The Guardian (and what exactly are they guarding, I’ve often wondered, beyond the obvious?) now  informs us: Damon said there was “a difference between patting someone on the butt and rape or child molestation. Both of those behaviours need to be confronted and eradicated without question, but they shouldn’t be conflated.” He added … Continue reading THREE MINI-ESSAYS on GOURMET VARIETIES of ABSOLUTELY PREPOSTEROUS BULLSHIT

CALLOW YOUTH and HOW IT GOT THAT WAY

One day in the mid-’90s I was walking along a side-street of the major shopping thoroughfare in Berlin called The Ku’Damm, and I spotted Wallace Shawn sitting at an out-door table at a trendy cafe (now gone) called “Rost”. I swerved right up to him and announced, to Wallace Shawn, that he was Wallace Shawn, and he agreed. I told Wallace Shawn how much certain friends of mine, and I, had loved “My Dinner with Andre”, and how we all, without exception, sided with his character’s world-view in Louis Malle’s delightful two-man film. I asked him what he was doing … Continue reading CALLOW YOUTH and HOW IT GOT THAT WAY
