My Facebook is small (I started off using it to keep in touch with people I knew c. 30-40 years ago, now separated from me by an ocean, with whom I wouldn’t otherwise be able to keep in touch)… but it’s striking to me that everybody who took the trouble to respond to this personal post is neither Conservative nor Liberal, Republican or Democrat… it’s almost all the people, in my Facebook, who are post-Ideology, who bothered to like and/or comment here!
The “Liberals” (who now behave like Committed Reactionary Conservatives) treat me like a Heretic because of all of my Anti-Bullshit, counter-Brainwashing posts! The “Liberals” are Ghosting me! Laugh.
I had two Conservatives in my Facebook, once, too… one old music biz friend who un-friended me when I commented, in 2008, that the “Tea-Baggers” (remember them?) were sort of “racist”. And one ex-GF from San Diego I un-friended because all her anti-Obama posts were racist-adjacent (make no mistake, I saw Obama for what he was: George Bush in a friendly brown face, a charming psychopath), posting dodgy gifs about his wife’s appearance. The Conservatives thought Trump would save them: how silly is that? Almost as silly as the “Liberals” thinking the profoundly corrupt and callous Hilary Clinton would save *them*!
The Ideologues are exhausting, because Ideology is a mechanism for replacing the process of Thinking with an empty space for Slogans and Catch-Phrases (like “flatten the curve” and “conspiracy theorist”) in support of the herdthink-take on trending issues. The Ideologues are Energizer Bunnies who hop around shouting “2 + 2 = 5!” with self-righteous indignation all day. They shout “Black Lives Matter!” and think nothing of the fact that the draconian and logically inconsistent lockdowns disproportionately put tens of millions of subsistence-living people of color (along with their poor white brothers and sisters) out of work and soon enough out of shelter and without food! “Black Lives Matter!” means poor Black people are allowed to march in a social-contact crowd of protest but not allowed to keep their social-contact jobs to feed their families: not much Thinking is going on there.
The Ideologues in my little Facebook are middle class, and can work from home, largely, and won’t cry out until “The Great Reset” (not my catch-phrase: Bill Gates and Klaus Schwab use it) comes for them, too. As ever, they’ll notice when it’s far too late (a la, “First they came for the trade unionists…” if you know that famous quotation). It’s okay if poor people are driven to starvation or suicide in the supposed effort to “stop the spread” of a Flu that 99% of people under 82 would recover from easily, if they caught it, the same as they do every Flu season, right? Well, not if you’re THINKING.
I prefer Thinking. It’s better, isn’t it? If you prefer Thinking, you won’t be duped by a “Republican” Fascist OR a “Democrat” Fascist. If you’re THINKING, even the combined efforts of the cartoons called Stephen Colbert, Oprah, Tom Hanks, Tina Fey and George Clooney won’t be able to dupe you! Amazing.
Anyway: thanks for “liking” and/or commenting, fellow Heretics! (Actually, one of you is not a Heretic, he’s just a really nice guy in an awkward position! laugh). Here’s a toast to THINKING.
PS Interesting info from sometimes-reliable Wiki: “First they came …” is the poetic form of a post-war confessional prose by the German Lutheran pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984). It is about the cowardice of German intellectuals and certain clergy—including, by his own admission, Niemöller himself—following the Nazis’ rise to power and subsequent incremental purging of their chosen targets, group after group.”
Funniest part: “A 1955 version of the speech, mentioned in an interview of a German professor quoting Niemöller, lists Communists, socialists, schools, Jews, the press, and the Church. An American version delivered by a congressman in 1968 includes industrialists, who were only persecuted by the Nazis on an individual basis, and omits Communists.”
