IDIOVIDEO

Still so little Time, right now,  to write detailed essays regarding the Imperial Absurdities we all live with,  and through,  with our tight little grins (but I must say I love how the Greta Thunberg charm offensive is falling apart:  you see? They aren’t infallible… They often fuck up,  They arrogantly miscalculate and Their social engineering schemes fall temporarily to pieces; sometimes the fuck ups are so huge even Duh Masses balk). I’m not only focused on finishing up this three-year album project; I’m bringing a couple of novels toward their finish lines, too. It’s the blogging that I cut back on, first, when Time gets thin.

Here are some entertaining videos (if only we had a more nuanced word for “entertainment”; a juggler is “entertaining”… music should be More).

I remarked, the other day, to Beloved (Minx) Wife that the “problem” with German Pop Culture is the lack of interplay between High and Low, here. Wagner is Wagner and Tokyo Hotel is Tokyo Hotel and they serve utterly different demographics and both demographics are raised to understand that the one is rather noble/ esoteric/ fancy and the other is just “fun” trash. In the Anglo-American tradition of Arty Masscult we have found a Third Way and it is rather good: Dada, The Blues, 12-Tone, Art Songs, Voodoo, Nietzsche, BeBop, Porno, Metafiction, Cracker Folk, Joycean Wordplay and pre-War Burlesque all freely interrelate and often manifest simultaneously in one act/ album/ song or verse. It’s this profligate tonal exogamy (or, shriek,  cultural miscegenation) that is responsible for the astonishing hybrid-vigor that tends to make German Classical seem brittle-boned (and suffering from Hemophilia)… and German Pop seem cheap and rather half-assed… in comparison. Well, unless you factor the near-zero of hideous Yankee Gangster Mumble Rap into the equations (shudder)… so don’t.

A German Joni Mitchell (or Alex Turner): impossible. Still: a much, much better place to live, this place. Grateful to be here and grateful to know those I know and to have Anglo-American music to soundtrack it all.

The wittiest, least Kool-Aid-ic discussion regarding Music Business Bullshit I’ve ever heard outside of a recording studio or a rehearsal space (and I say that as I guy who knows secret details about, for example, Prince, that would make you whimper). If only Pat were a great drummer, too: if only Pat could drum like Jack, and Jack could sing like Dan and Jack and Dan could write together…
